Guy Fawkes Description

Excitement filled the audience as bright, loud, fireworks burst
into the air. BOOM! Excited and pleased cheers filled the
neighborhood. CRACKLE! The fireworks sink down, little
sparks hitting the grass. People clap and lean towards the
person beside them, chattering about the wonderful sight.
More are lit and they explode into the night sky, the stars
glistening. Eyes lit up as more fireworks fired off into
the skies. BANG! Startled citizens back up in shock.
FIZZ! It sprinkled back down, some flares spreading
across the grass, fading away. Many yells filled the
air, questions following them. “Is it over yet?” A few
questioned. Sparklers were given out, the sparks
bouncing away. Children stared at the sparklers
intently, slightly tempted to touch it. The adults
warn them with a serious tone in their
voice. Some shivered in the chilly weather,
hugging themselves tighter. The luminous stars
dance in the moonlit sky. Some people hold a hand
to their ears. BOOM! BANG! Sudden fireworks
burst off. The invisible, fluffy clouds shuffle along.
The younger children yelp and hide behind their
parents, wincing at the sound. Those who feared
the loud noise show their smiles when they think it’s over.

They jump, startled by another shooting off into the
sky and ending with a BANG! The youngest children
tug on the sleeves of their parents. Some walk off,
heading back home as a cold breeze shot by. Another
darted into the night sky, sparks bursting off in
different directions. A shooting-star-like firework
followed behind it, very quick and making a loud,
squealing noise. It then faded away, as they all do,
applause exploding into the cold air. Grey smoke
clouded the air. It surrounds the audience, the smell
unpleasant. Everyone scrunches up their noses,
waving the smell away. People begin to leave as
the sky darkens. That was Guy Fawkes.

Wearable Arts Poems

Wearable Arts is coming -
Every kid knows,
They’re all stomping around like dino's

Wearable Arts is coming -
The teachers know,
They clean up while preparing for the show

Wearable Arts is coming -
The parents know,
They’re taking a camera to take some photos

Wearable Arts is coming -
I know,
Hoping my mum decides not to go

Second Poem:

Wearable Arts is coming -
The backstage crew is preparing,
They’re waiting to see what the models are wearing

Wearable Arts is coming -
Everyone is creating,
Ready for the show, but tired of waiting

Wearable Arts is coming -
The teachers are tired,
Screaming like the world is on fire

Wearable Arts is coming -
I hope it works out,

I wonder what everyone is screaming about

I wrote two poems about Wearable Arts using the model, 'Winter's coming.' I enjoyed writing both of them and I'm excited for the real show. I can't wait!

How to be a School Leader!

Are you interested in becoming a School Leader? Then
pay close attention, I’ll be
teaching you how to be a great School
Leader at PCS.

First off, you have to be very respectful towards others. This
is because you talk to lots of people, even special guests that arrive
at the school for a Duffy Assembly, which you might be chosen to
introduce. Why does being respectful apply to this? Because you have
to be very kind as you are speaking to them, otherwise they might not feel
as welcome. Respect is an important quality you should already have
before you get chosen as a Leader. You also shouldn’t have an
annoyed tone as you speak to people either. You should also
make others feel welcome, such as new students or guests.

Next comes confidence. Confidence is very important. Back to the
“introducing guests” part, you have to be confident enough to speak
to them. And you also have to take on the job of having to host
whole school assemblies a few times. This also means having
to contribute as a School Leader. Accept other ideas that people
have, it's also okay to give feedback if you disagree. For
example, School Leaders can also organize fundraisers for
trips. When you are discussing fundraiser ideas, take in
other ideas and accept them, rather than not accepting
anything at all.

And then comes responsibility. Another important quality
for School Leaders. You have to be on time. For a few things,
maybe jobs. Speaking of time, you also should be
able to manage your time. Time is important, you should
be able to prioritise. Since school leaders get jobs, you
should try to put the important jobs first, and the least
important last. And you should be hard-working,
like getting work done instead of spending it doing
less important things like having a conversation with your buddy.
That’s what makes responsibility important.

Last comes being a learner. School Leaders should
be able to finish their work fast and go to a job. They
should still be able to learn stuff, and handle their jobs. It sounds
a little hard to learn and do jobs at the same time, but you should be
able to be hard-working. Being hard-working doesn’t mean you can
finish work immediately, not always do you have to finish it.
All you have to do is try and have fun. As the school motto
says, ‘We have fun learning.’

All of those qualities are important. They all add up to being
a great School Leader. Being a School Leader also applies
to your life in the future because all the information about
your schools go onto what's called a CV. On your CV it should
say that you're a school leader. That information is important,
because when you want to get hired for a job, whoever is
hiring you can look at your CV and know that you’d
be a great employee. That makes it easier for you to get a job.

Hiwi the Kiwi

Do you enjoy fishing? You’re in luck, because today I’ll be telling you some
interesting facts about water safety, seabirds, fish, facts, and why our
ocean matters.

Fishing for the future is all about keeping our ocean safe and making
sure we leave fish if they are too big, our too small. If it's too small, it's most
likely still a baby and still needs to grow up into an adult. If the
fish is way too big, it could be a mother with babies in it's stomach, which
is why you should leave it in the ocean and let it live. And you must make sure
you don’t catch lots of fish, you should be consider others who fish, they might still
want to catch some.

Water safety is very important! You have to make sure you’re
wearing a life jacket on a boat, kayak, paddleboard, canoe and
more. Don’t leave the life jacket
at the other end of the boat in case the boat/kayak/paddleboard/canoe has an accident.
In case it happens too fast, leave your life jacket on. I also think that it's very
important the children are taught swimming in schools. This is because students should
be able to swim in case their boat (or whatever they’re using), for example, flips over,
they are able to swim to safety.

You don’t want to catch a seabird, right? That’s why it's really important that you
don’t catch a seabird! In other words, SOS. SOS means Save Our Seabirds.
There are birds that are almost completely gone, for example the Black Petrel bird. The Black
Petrel is a New Zealand bird, and it looks wonderful, I would hate to have them extinct.
There are also some seabirds who mistake plastic for food and accidentally eat it.
Once they eat the plastic, no other food can get through, and they end up dying. It's
very sad. That’s why we should SOS!

When you catch a snapper, make sure the fish is 30cm before you catch
it. If it's under 30cm it's too small to be caught. That’s why you should bring a ruler
to measure it. When you measure the fish, you have to measure it from the middle
of the tail to the nose. Make sure that once you catch it, pick it up with a wet towel
so that you don’t remove any of the scales. If you remove the scales and end up
putting it back, the fish will die. If you do catch it and take it home, put it in salt ice.
If you put it in salt ice it’ll stay nice and cold for you to eat.

Here are some interesting facts that I think you should keep in mind. Kai
Moana means seafood in Maori, did you know that? There are also more than
3000 kinds of fish! Which is why you shouldn’t litter because you wouldn’t want to
kill any fish, especially 3000 different kinds. But unfortunately, over 1000 of those
fish species are threatened by extinction. I think that it's very sad that some fish
species might go completely extinct. And 6.5 million tons of litter enter
the world’s ocean each year! I find that very disappointing to hear.

I know that lots of people already know that our ocean is important, but
sometimes people still litter, and the rubbish ends up in the ocean. Here are
some good reasons on why our ocean matters. You may not know this, but
the ocean produces half of the worlds oxygen. And of course, oxygen is very
important. Otherwise, how would we be breathing? Anyways, lots of people
can get sick sometimes. The ocean can help fix
that, actually. The ocean provides medicine ingredients, some that could
even cure diseases. They also contain more than 97% of the world’s water.
So make sure to pick up any rubbish you see on the
beach.

Did you learn something? I did. Make sure to share this information, thanks for reading!

How to feel Calm

Are you ever feeling angry or overwhelmed? Then listen closely, this is what you should do to
feel calm.

First off, you know that you’re angry when you feel like yelling, maybe trying to defend yourself
in an argument. You might want to be alone, not speaking with
anyone, thinking to yourself. Maybe you don’t feel like talking to anybody else. Then you might
start to feel frustrated, even at the smallest things. You could’ve gotten distracted when you
want to be alone, and that might make you feel
angry.

Next you should go to the kitkat corner. The kitkat corner is where you sit down once
you are mad. Once you’re in the kitkat corner, try to calm down. Take a deep breath and
try to feel better. Try not to get distracted by other people, it might not help. And again so you
don’t distracted, focus looking at the wall, or outdoors.

Then try to think of your happy place. Your happy place could be anywhere. For example, it
could be sitting at home. You could be doing anything, like reading a book quietly. That's my
happy place. If you think about your happy place it might make you feel more calm and
relaxed instead of mad, or
overwhelmed.

You know that you’re calm when you can finally smile, you no longer feel like yelling at
anyone, and you start to feel much better, less stressed and more relaxed. You should
remember these for the next time you’re mad/overwhelmed now that you know. I hope you
learned something. Follow these steps the next time this might
happen.

In class we were writing an explanation writing on 'How To Feel Calm.' We had to fill out a sheet answering questions such as 'How do you know you're mad/overwhelmed?' 'What is your happy place?' We put three answers for each question, and wrote them down as paragraphs.

Dear BOT,

Thank you for the brand new TVs! I enjoy having them in our hub.
The Teachers are usually using the TV for Hapara, so the Students can see whenever someone is on a site they aren’t supposed
to be on. The Teachers also use them to play music.

They are great, and I am very happy that we now have the privilege to
use them in our large hub. Because the TVs are so big, it's easy to see
what the Teacher is trying to explain.

I remember all of the excitement on everyone’s faces when they
entered the classroom to see 2 new TVs. I was excited to have them,
and even more excited once they got the TVs set up. I also think
the Chromecast is really helpful for the Teachers, because they all can
connect their laptops to the TVs. I think the remote is really helpful too!

Yours Sincerely,

Tara

Travelling Mysteries (Free Writing)

Travelling Mysteries

The bell rang. A huge group of kids ran outside. Most of them ran, but some walked, or waited for their parents to get there. One girl went the opposite way. One way nobody was going, but stuck inside a ocean of kids, she blended in pretty well. She went inside the bathroom. She waited in front of the sink, until her watch beeped, and the numbers on the watch flashed. “Perfect timing.” She said, tapping her watch. A small hologram appeared. “Same for you, Lily.” The hologram spoke. “Anyways, come to the headquarters fast.” The hologram said. “This is going to be one of your favourites.” The hologram flashed, and disappeared. Her watch went back to normal. ‘One of my favourites?’ Lily thought. She shrugged, and ran off. There weren’t as much kids now. She was half-way there. Suddenly her phone rang. “Hello?” She answered. “Your late to get home again!” The person on the other end was her mother. “Sorry, spending a night at a friends house. For studying, of course.” Lily replied. “Fine, but this is the last time.” Her mother ended the call, and Lily continued to walk.

She had finally got there. She was at the beach. There was a large rock that was always there. Lily places her hand on the side of the rock. BEEP, BEEP. Lily looked around. Nobody ever came to this beach. The hologram made sure of that. Actually, she was the one who decided to spread rumours about it. She actually fooled them, so they think it’s true. Anyways, out of the water, A building came out. A path appears. Lily walks on it. She makes her way inside. And the building disappeared. The hologram lady walked out. Not a hologram, but the real person. “Alright, come, in you go. Same as last time.” The lady looked like she was rushing. Lily was shoved inside this glass tube. Anyways, the lady went behind some controls. She pulled a small lever. ZAP! Lily disappeared before she could say a single word.

Lily appeared in a small room. It looked like a janitor’s closet. She examined the room, looking at what was around her. She noticed that she was holding a piece of paper. At the top was a title that said, ‘Your Job Is:’ and underneath that was a list of the things she needed to do. “Alright, so… Step one, earn their trust. Step two, sneak in without being spotted. And lastly, step three, steal the jewel.” Lily read. “Just like those cartoons I used to watch.” Lily shakes her head to clear all the cartoons out of her head. “Wait, I’m supposed to be wearing my black spy suit.” Lily said, looking down at her gown. “What the heck is this?! I’m calling her again…” Lily, still annoyed, tapped her watch. The hologram appeared again. “Tell me what's going on here.” Lily demanded. “Sorry, but I’m really busy right now.” The hologram said. Then it disappeared, as always.

Lily rolled her eyes. She took some time to look at what she wore. She was wearing a long, bright pink gown, with patterns on the sides. She had long light pink gloves on her hands to match the dress. And she was wearing a mask, too. She removed the mask to examine it. The mask had pink glitter on it, and black glitter on the edges. “Wait a minute..” Lily had a idea of what she was doing. “I’m at a masquerade party! Nice!” Lily smiled, and twirled with her dress. “I look amazing. At least they gave me something good to wear.” She placed the mask back on her face. She walked towards the door. She felt lucky that she was wearing flats instead of high heels. Anyways, she opened the door and walked out, closing the door again. She saw a giant room, which she soon realized was a ballroom. It was beautiful and full of people.

Lily casually made her way over to a door. It was a huge, wooden door with patterns of flowers around the edges. Lily stood in front of it. She observed, looking at all the patterns. “This must be the door that leads you inside and out.” Lily whispered to herself. “What did you say?” Said a large, armoured figure. It stood by the side of the door, now it was looking down at Lily. Lily realised that was a guard. It was holding a silver axe, which looked very heavy. “Oh, um, I was, uh,  just admiring.” Lily said, with a nervous looking smile taped across her face. “If you say so.” The guard looked forward again and continued to well… Guard, I guess. Lily quickly looked at the door handle. It was large, and it had a giant lock on it. Then she turned and walked to the corner of the room. She stood there and thought. “I’ve got to find some sort of key. A large, heavy, key.”

Lily looked at the axe once more, realizing that was the key, by looking at the sharp ends. Lily decided to distract the guard. So she grabbed a cup full of a red liquid. ‘3, 2, 1...Go!’ As soon as Lily finished thinking, she poured the liquid onto the guard. Well she kind of threw the cup in the air. The liquid flowed into the helmet, hopefully getting in his eyes. “What is this- Hey, you get back here! I can’t see!” The guard said walking around crashing into things. People laughed as he kept hitting things. Then he fell, dropping his axe. ‘Let’s do this thing.’ Lily ran and grabbed the axe. She struggled to, but eventually she had it. The other guards ran out, feeling a bit afraid since they were unarmed. Lily came a little closer. “I will hit you with this axe, so stay back!” Lily spoke, feeling fearless. The guards stepped back. One tripped over a lady’s high heels. Both the lady and the guard went down. “Are you okay-” The guard tripped on the fallen guards legs, going down with them too. There was a loud clank with that many layers of armour on. Lily grinned and slowly lifted the axe up and pushed it into the lock. The door opened. “HEY! She’s getting away!” A Guard shouted. They all ran, while Lily escaped and shut the door. “You better get back here THIS INSTANT!” Lily heard.

“Now to find this ‘Secret Room’ of rare jewels.” Lily laughed at her very own sentence. She looked around. Then there was a loud bang. “Hope she didn’t run too far.” A Guard spoke. “Oh no.” Lily ran and leaned on the side of the wall. There was a brick poking out that she leaned on. It was pushed in easily. Then a secret door opened. “Huh? I found it!” Lily said happily. “I think..” It was dark, but torches lit the way. Lily made her way through the hallway, until she found a dead end. “It stops here.” Lily said, turning about to tread off. Then she realized, “That’s only what they want us to think.” Lily tried finding a secret button, or a secret lever, or anything that would open the wall. Nothing. After all her searching, nothing at all. Lily sighed. “Maybe it's more simple than I thought.” Lily decided standing right in front of the wall that seemed to be the dead end. She tapped the wall, and surprisingly it opened. “Huh, I guess I was right.” Lily ran in and it shined beautifully. There were rare jewels and jewelry everywhere. “How do I know which one to take?” Lily thought. Someone jumped down from a tall shelf. “I suggest ya’ don’t.” He was much older, and he didn’t have much armour, but Lily was sure to lose a fight to him. Lily sneaked a quick look at the paper, and it said the gem was a dark shade of red, and it was medium sized, and it was light. Lily spotted a maroon medium gem, which she ran at and grabbed. “You’ll never catch me!” Lily shouted. She dived into a vent. The man was way too big to fit inside. Lily giggled and crawled her way to the end. She tapped her watch again, and there the hologram was. “I’m ready to go back.” Lily said. And 3… 3… 1… WHOOSH! And in seconds she was back in the headquarters. “What was the rush before you sent me?” Lily asked. “I was busy, very busy, and I was about to be late for something, so I had to hurry. Now go back home, your mother’s probably worried. She made her way home and had a nap, tired after all that mess.

Horse Riding at Sonshine Ranch

11/11/17 Horse Riding

I got a lift up onto my horse, Zu. Zu was a grey horse, with darker grey
spots surrounding the bottom of the horse. After I got on, I held the reins
tightly, but low. My toes go through the stirrups. I tap the side of the horse
softly, making it move. Excitement started to fill, as my horse trotted
out of the stable. Zu almost starts to gallop. It almost bumps into
Juliet (Mia’s Horse), who slowly trots on the gravel ground.
My horse wouldn’t stop, only if I sat up and held the reins back. Which
is what I did most of the time. I had a sudden feeling of fright, as we trot
up the hill. I felt as if I was going to fall back onto the ground. I try not
to look back, but I only catch a tiny glimpse of Alyssa on her horse
behind me. I see the other horses heading back to the stables.
Zu tries to cut in front of other horses because he went to fast, which
was the reason I stopped Zu most of the time. My horse almost went
as fast as a cheetah. The ride felt so short, but Mia had told me
it was a long time, and I hadn’t realised. I had never been able
to actually control my own horse, so I felt happy, and very excited
to ride my horse. It felt great at first, but later it felt as amazing as ever.
My horse kept bobbing up and down when it trots. When my horse
started to speed up, a breeze runs through me like a ghost. The ride
felt so much better in the breeze, since the sun had burnt me down
before I mounted my horse. At the end, I dismount my horse. I felt
amazed at what had just happened. I was now feeling confident,
since before I got a bit scared before I mount my horse. It was
so amazing. I wish I could own a horse myself.

The end.
