Waitangi Day

You can take a trip as a visitor at Waitangi. Here are 3 cool things to do there!

1. When your hungry, there's a restaurant and a bar there to eat and drink!
2. You can take a tour around the Waitangi River for some photos!
3. Live Kapa Haka performances are there for you to watch and enjoy.

Translating Phrases!

I translated a few phrases, and here are the results.

1. Nau Mai Ki Aotearoa - Welcome to New Zealand.
2. Ko Tara Toku Ingoa - My name is Tara.
3. He Aha to ingoa? - What is your name?
4. He pai taku ki te takaro i tu whutupaoro - I like to play rugby.
5.  No hea Koe? - Where do you come from?

Whai

Whai (String Games)

Whai is a string game that Maori children used to play long ago. You grab a piece of string and the aim of the game is to make the most elegant pattern with the string. It was more of flax than string. There are no rules to play the game.

Whai is old, but it could still be played today.

Waiata

This is my favourite Waiata, I sang it with the Kapa Haka group.
E te Ariki     (wahine / women only)
Whakarongo mai ra     (tane / men only)
Whakarongo mai ra ki a matou
E te Ariki
Titiro mai ra     (tane / men only)
Titiro mai ra ki a matou
Tenei matou
O tamariki
E whakapono
Ana matou
Ki a koe
Aue!     (wahine / women only)
Aue!     (tane / men only)
Aue!     (wahine / women only)
Aue!     (tane / men only)
Te matua te tamaiti
Wairua tapu e
(Repeat)

E te Ariki is my favourite Waiata because it's very catchy and it's easy to learn. I like to listen to E te Ariki sometimes.

SLJ Day 3: Activity 1 - The More The Merrier!

If I had nine Siblings...

I wouldn't like it, but soon I'd get used to it. I like having my own space, and nine siblings?! It's almost impossible to get your own space with that many siblings. I have one computer and one laptop, which would be taken over with nine siblings! Although it might be annoying, I'd still have heaps of love for my family. I would feel kind of bad for my parents, because it'd be their worst nightmare to have that many children. I think I'm lucky to have three siblings.

SLJ Day 2: The Rules of Engagement.

Summer learning Journey Day 2: House Or A Home?

Summer Learning Journey: Activity 2

If I was set on a voyage to NZ, I'd send a letter to my friend telling them what it felt like. The letter would say:

Dear Friend,

Now I am on the Waka. I've left my home, which is a bit sad. Memories stay, but I shall go. I'm already missing my home. Feeling nervous, but at least it's worth it. Or it better be... I don't see hope, but I do see mist.

Few hours later.
In those few hours, I couldn't find anything to write about. There's just mist, clouds, water and... New Zealand! At last, I have made it. Not much around here. In the last few minutes, it's been a bumpy ride, but I have managed to stay aboard my waka. Winds blew, mist cleared, and arrived again. Well, Here I am. In New Zealand. I shall settle here and search for the rest of the people. If there is any people, if not, it is truly hopeless, and there is never a way back. Not in this condition of weather... I'll just have to see if this mist clears up tomorrow. And check if there are no strong winds.

I hope you get this message, and try to send me a reply...
Yours sincerely, Tara.

Horse Riding at Sonshine Ranch

11/11/17 Horse Riding

I got a lift up onto my horse, Zu. Zu was a grey horse, with darker grey
spots surrounding the bottom of the horse. After I got on, I held the reins
tightly, but low. My toes go through the stirrups. I tap the side of the horse
softly, making it move. Excitement started to fill, as my horse trotted
out of the stable. Zu almost starts to gallop. It almost bumps into
Juliet (Mia’s Horse), who slowly trots on the gravel ground.
My horse wouldn’t stop, only if I sat up and held the reins back. Which
is what I did most of the time. I had a sudden feeling of fright, as we trot
up the hill. I felt as if I was going to fall back onto the ground. I try not
to look back, but I only catch a tiny glimpse of Alyssa on her horse
behind me. I see the other horses heading back to the stables.
Zu tries to cut in front of other horses because he went to fast, which
was the reason I stopped Zu most of the time. My horse almost went
as fast as a cheetah. The ride felt so short, but Mia had told me
it was a long time, and I hadn’t realised. I had never been able
to actually control my own horse, so I felt happy, and very excited
to ride my horse. It felt great at first, but later it felt as amazing as ever.
My horse kept bobbing up and down when it trots. When my horse
started to speed up, a breeze runs through me like a ghost. The ride
felt so much better in the breeze, since the sun had burnt me down
before I mounted my horse. At the end, I dismount my horse. I felt
amazed at what had just happened. I was now feeling confident,
since before I got a bit scared before I mount my horse. It was
so amazing. I wish I could own a horse myself.

The end.

Sonshine Ranch!

Sonshine Ranch
Yesterday, on Thursday the 7th, me and all the other year four’s went to Sonshine Ranch! It was amazing! First, we had got into groups at school on the court. After a few minutes, we lined up to get onto the bus. The first thing I said before I stepped into the bus was, “I am so excited!” And it was true, I couldn’t wait! After a LOOOONG drive, we finally got there. Though, it didn’t look how I expected it to look like. But still, the experience was amazing. We got there and had morning Tea. I ate half of my Twix bar. Then I had a quick drink of water. After that, we put two groups together, and off we went to the Rope Swing and Zipline.

It was such a long walk to the Rope Swing and Zipline. My legs moved as slow as a sloth. We got a harness on, and lined up for the EXTREME Zipline! I was NOT excited, I was scared. But when Cindy went down the Zipline, my confidence had grown. I was excited. Finally, when it was my turn, I went down the Zipline. AMAZING! I got off the Zipline. And I said, “THAT WAS AMAZING!” After I lined up for the Rope Swing and I hated it. But for some reason, It was my favourite.

Horse riding, YAY! I rode the horse named Zu. It's a fast grey horse. The horse riding was my 2nd favourite because we got to control the horses ourselves. It was so fun, and amazing. We went uphill, and downhill. Around corners, and in circles. After we lastly pet the lamb and the goats. It didn’t smell good there, so I went out of their pen. Straight to the Guinea Pigs and the Rabbits we go! I was holding Snoopy the rabbit and Peter the Guinea Pig. They were fluffy, but I was told that Snoopy bites! So straight away I asked to hold Peter. Peter was way better. And obviously, a boy. I loved Sonshine Ranch.

The end!

The 3 Mountains

\
WALT: Make a Powtoon about the 3 mountains.

The Fight for Pihanga

6/12/17 The Fight for Pihanga

Long ago, there was 2 mountains. They were named Tongariro and Taranaki. You might not know Tongariro and Taranaki, but they fought. They fought over the 3rd mountain, Pihanga. Pihanga was the only female that lived there. Both mountains wanted to marry Pihanga, since she was the only female. Tongariro and Taranaki fought hard. Both mountains weakened as they fought for Pihanga. They had fought so hard, that Tongariro had lost it's head. It has been said that Tongariro broke it off on purpose to fling at Taranaki. Some others say Taranaki had sliced the head off with a big powerful blow. It fell into Lake Taupo.

Lava had also sprung out of the mountains as thunder boomed in the skies. Ashes splashed onto the grounds of grass. But finally. The fight was over. Taranaki had lost over Tongariro. Tongariro had got to marry Pihanga, the mountain with the glorious delicate nature surrounding the tops of it, but lastly it was graceful. Taranaki had shuddered down to the ground.

The land had changed after Taranaki had been defeated. He carved a river, known as the Wanganui river. He had cried, and cried after defeat. When he cried, his tears had filled the river up to the top. Wanganui river had been created, changing the landscape. Taranaki had found a female, Pouakai. Together, they had many children. Wind, rain, plants, people, rocks and rivers.

The end.

ASB Money!

Money
There are two types of money. No, it’s not dollar bills and cents. It’s visible money and invisible money. Visible money is money you can see. For example, if you go to the store and it's cash only, you pay the cash that you can see to the cashier. Invisible money is money that you can’t see. Example: If you go to the shop and you can’t pay cash, you use a credit card or a debit card.
How do you pay with credit/debit cards?
The answer to that is eftpos machines. When you are at the store and you (or anyone) is paying for something, you should see a machine where you swipe a card on. Now you should be quite familiar with these. The way they work is you swipe your card, and type your pin code. Your pin code is like a password, so nobody but you know it. Your pin allows the money to be paid electronically. The money will go straight to the shopkeeper. So now the amount of money you paid has been taken off your credit/debit card.

Do we use credit and debit for buying things?
Yes, you do. But, you should NOT use your credit card on buying things like a playstation because those cost a lot of money. And, you have to pay that same amount back. That’s quite a lot of money. Debit cards are better for things like playstations because you're not paying it back. Credit should only be used for things you need like food, clothes and more.

'Book' (Story)

Book
So there I was, browsing the library. Wait, that doesn’t sound as dramatic as I thought it would be. Forget about that. Anyways, I was browsing the library for 1 HOUR (more like 5 minutes, but who cares really?) finding a book. “Children, only 10 *sigh* more minutes. Another *sigh* class is coming in early.” Says my teacher. What a grump. I see a book, seems like it has a heap of pages. I guess it's the ‘only’ choice I have. (Even though there’s over a million books in the School Library)

HOME, at last! I feel great looking at the pictures on the wall, smelling the great spray that Mom sprayed on the couch. Ahh...AHHH!!!! I scream and ran upstairs to my room. ‘What was that?’ You may ask? Well that was me freaking out. Wait, let me rephrase, that was a SOUND of a bee chasing (well not ‘chasing’ but, still) ME! Wait, how do sounds even chase people. Anyways, (In a more dramatic voice) I shut my door and I still heard the bee noises. I was going to be stuck by a SILLY BEE SOUND!

To pass the time, I decided to play my phone. It's been 1 hour, 52 minutes and I can’t see how many seconds because my phone died. Yippee.. What's left, my book… I lean closer to it and the bee sound gets louder, louder, louder, lou- That’s too much ‘louder’s’ actually. I open my book slowly. And a bee flew out and flies out the window. Phew. Must’ve got in when I put my book down at school. I read my book and it says, ‘Put Me Down, please.’ I put it down slowly, “OK, then…” I said. I flip the page. ‘Now  throw me out your window,’ it read. “This doesn’t belong to me, it belongs to the School.” I was worried. The book flew off of the bed and flies out the window, and drops. I ran to the window and try to grab it before it escaped. “NO!” I yelled.

I guess that book is gone and I (yes, I) am PAYING FOR THE BOOK! It probably doesn’t matter, I’ll leave it. OK, now I’m getting flashbacks to people getting told off by the principal. So I take that back, It PROBABLY really matters, I’m giving it back. BUT HOW? It’s got mud, torn pages and prints of the tyres from a car. Well it's best I get some rest, I’m so tired *yawn* now.. Night, night everyone, or just the people reading. Whatever, goodnight.

New day, new start, new- Old book. I have to return it! Why do I really ‘have’ to return it, even though I get that it matters. Matters a lot. But, I have to go to the library and do it. I head to the library and try one of my tricks. Just casually slide it on the issue and return desk, while I whistle and walk off.  “Nuh-uh-uh! No books shall be broken except for-” The library lady pauses. “Except for this book. Nobody likes it. It's best it goes. It is a rubbish book, and it has rubbish looks.” The lady had continued.
I sighed in relief. I mean, I stopped sighing for a moment and told her I knew. Why? I don’t know, because I’m SMART!

The end of it all. (OR NOT!) Yes, no more, the real end is HERE and if I ever said OR NOT then that would be an obvious lie. (<-- A lie! OR NOT!) OK, bye! (OR NOT_ Y’know I’ll just stop...
